Project Overview:
A leading nonprofit partnered with Bank of America to launch a Green Skills Development Initiative aimed at equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to address socio-scientific issues and pursue green livelihoods. The initiative focuses on integrating sustainability principles into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes across Assam, Karnataka, and Gujarat, to foster a culture of sustainability and climate resilience.
Key Objectives:
Building a Sustainability Mindset:Â Enable learners to understand the science behind socio-scientific issues and apply this knowledge to drive positive change in their immediate ecosystems.
Promoting Green Livelihoods:Â Support learners in finding internships, apprenticeships, and jobs that align with sustainability principles and contribute to environmental conservation.
Institutional Transformation:Â Undertake a whole-institution approach to integrate sustainability principles into every aspect of TVET life, fostering quality education and training while building climate resilience.
Key Components:
Facilitator Capacity Building:Â 02+ developed a comprehensive Facilitator Capacity Building Manual and Facilitator Guide for in-person classroom delivery. These resources provide facilitators with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively deliver sustainability-focused curriculum and engage learners in meaningful discussions.
Baseline Assessment:Â A Baseline Form and Green Audit process were implemented to assess the readiness of participating institutes and identify areas for improvement. This process serves as a foundation for developing tailored action plans for implementing sustainability initiatives.
Campus Intervention Identification:Â 02+ identified key areas for intervention within participating institutes to promote green practices and sustainability. These interventions aim to transform institutes into Green Institutions committed to environmental conservation and climate resilience.
State Action Plans:Â Each participating institute developed state-specific action plans outlining their strategies for integrating sustainability principles into their curriculum, operations, and campus culture. These action plans serve as roadmaps for implementing sustainability initiatives and measuring progress over time.
Success Metrics:
Curriculum Integration:Â Measure the extent to which sustainability principles are integrated into the curriculum and learning outcomes of participating institutes.
Student Engagement:Â Assess student engagement and participation in sustainability-related activities, internships, and green livelihood opportunities.
Institutional Transformation:Â Evaluate the progress of participating institutes in adopting green practices, reducing environmental impact, and fostering a culture of sustainability.
Employment Outcomes:Â Track the number of students securing internships, apprenticeships, and jobs in green sectors following participation in the program.
The Green Skills Development Initiative represents a holistic approach to integrating sustainability into Technical and Vocational Education and Training. By building a sustainability mindset among learners, promoting green livelihoods, and fostering institutional transformation, the initiative aims to create a new generation of environmentally conscious professionals equipped to address pressing socio-scientific issues and contribute to a more sustainable future. Through collaborative partnerships and targeted interventions, the nonprofit is leading the way in advancing environmental education and promoting green skills development across diverse communities and regions.
